More lanes for Providence Road

Map of contruction zoneDOT has announced that the long overdue project to add lanes to Providence Road between I485 and Rea Road going into Union County toward Weddington will be open for bidding in Nov of 2007 and construction will begin Jan of 2008.

Providence Road, otherwise known as NC 16 is a heavily traveled road with ongoing increasing traffic.  About 33000 cars travel the 3.5 mile section of NC 16 on a daily basis, by 2030, this number will likely be pushing 43000 with the growth of Union Co.  This relief is well overdue and is welcomed by everyone affected.
